SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Sequin is queer and comfortable with his sexuality and has a healthy relationship with his father. He prefers anonymous, unconditional sexual encounters over any sort of relationship. His one-night-stands are arranged through a dating app, but Sequin quickly removes all record of each liaison so as to remain emotionally detached. But this careful modus operandi quickly unravels once Sequin begins to be stalked by B and is invited to a sex party at The Blue Room by D.

In his debut feature film, Conor Leach plays Sequin with great confidence, and is certainly an actor we'll long to see more of. It is also the directorial debut of Samuel Van Grinsven and was his graduate project at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, produced on a budget of only $45,000. Such a low budget and lack of experience are certainly not apparent on viewing the film, which won the award for Best Narrative Feature at the Sydney Film Festival in 2019.

Sequin in a Blue Room has also received much acclaim in the press since its release.
